Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra on 6 November 2026

The musical highlight

On 6 November 2026, the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra will perform Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, conducted by Dmitry Matvienko.

Since its premiere more than 200 years ago, the Ninth has come to symbolise freedom, community and the unifying power of music.

It reaches its most famous moment in the final movement, when the choir and soloists join in with Schiller’s ‘Ode to Joy’.

Conductor Dmitry Matvienko describes the significance of the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra’s performance as follows:

“Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony reminds us why we make music together: not to find answers, but to hold on to hope – loudly, powerfully and together.”

Featuring Hailey Clark, Clémentine Margaine, Bror Magnus Tødenes and Taras Berezhansky, the quartet of soloists is an international line-up. They are joined by the Akademisk Kor Århus and the Ungdomskoret Aarhus.

Aarhus is a city that’s easy to explore on foot. Some of the most interesting cultural attractions are clustered close together around the Musikhuset.

Right next door is the ARoS Art Museum. Olafur Eliasson’s colourful installation ‘Your rainbow panorama’ winds its way across the roof. Since June 2026, James Turrell’s large Skyspace ‘As Seen Below’ has also been part of the museum.

In the Latinerkvarteret, the older part of the city centre, you’ll find cafés, shops and restaurants. Aarhus Ø, the new harbour district with modern architecture right on the waterfront, offers a completely different atmosphere.

The Boutique Hotel Royal has been part of Aarhus since 1838 and is situated right on Store Torv, the large square in front of the cathedral. Restored furniture from the hotel’s history sits alongside modern furnishings, the walls are adorned with the finest art, and each room is decorated in a slightly different style.

Royal Deluxe Double Room

The Royal Deluxe Double Room measures approximately 25 m² and combines the building’s historic features with modern comforts. Amenities include a double bed, a desk, a TV, Wi-Fi, a minibar and a bathroom with Molton Brown toiletries. Breakfast is included.

Princess Room for single occupancy

The Princess Rooms, measuring around 20 m², are a lovely alternative to the classic single room. They feature a wider bed and are similarly individually furnished with period furniture. Amenities include a TV with Chromecast, Wi-Fi, a kettle with coffee and tea, a minibar, a hairdryer and a bathroom with a shower. Breakfast is included.

Belle Guldsmeden ****

The Belle Guldsmeden opened in 2026 in Aarhus’s new Sydhavnskvarteret district. For Guldsmeden, this marks a return to the starting point of its own history, as the first hotel opened by founders Sandra and Marc Weinert was established in Aarhus in 1999.

The hotel combines Scandinavian design with the slightly more relaxed style characteristic of Guldsmeden hotels.

Facilities include a heated indoor pool in a bright orangery and a sauna, which hotel guests can use at no extra charge.

Breakfast at Bisou Bar & Bistro focuses on organic produce.

Superior Double Room

The Superior Double Rooms measure approximately 22 m² and can be booked as double rooms or for single occupancy.

Amenities include air conditioning, a desk, a kettle, a safe, a flat-screen TV and a bathroom with a shower and toiletries.

James Turrell’s Skyspace at the ARoS Art Museum

The American light artist James Turrell has created a large, dome-shaped space beneath the museum that opens up to the sky.

It is his 100th Skyspace and was opened in June 2026. Light, colour and the view of the sky transform one’s perception of the space there.

Music Travel Hideaways covers the admission fee to the ARoS Art Museum and plans your visit to coincide with a light session in the Skyspace. Where possible, we’ll book a twilight session at sunset. During this, the light inside the dome changes in tandem with the last rays of daylight. Alternatively, we’ll schedule one of the so-called ‘Colour Shifts’, during which light and colour transform the entire space for around 20 minutes.
