Aix-en-Provence - France

The Festival d'Aix-en-Provence

from 2 to 21 July 2026

The musical highlight

The Festival d'Aix-en-Provence is one of the most important festivals for opera and classical music.

On 8 July 2026, Benjamin Bernheim will sing at the Grand Théâtre de Provence, accompanied by Qiaochu Li on the piano.

The programme includes songs and arias by Massenet, Bizet, Duparc, Puccini, Verdi and Berlioz, among others.

If you would like to experience an opera in addition to this recital, Mozart's opera ‘The Magic Flute’ will be performed on 7 or 11 July 2026

at the Théâtre de l'Archevêché. Located in the courtyard of the former archbishop's palace, in the heart of the old town, this stage is one of the most beautiful settings of the festival.

And if you would prefer to experience dance theatre instead of opera, ‘Requiem’ (Mozart) is the perfect choice as a staged production

on 6 July or 10 July 2026.

Another special venue is the Théâtre du Jeu de Paume, a small 18th-century theatre.

On 17, 18 and 20 July 2026, Hans Werner Henze's El Cimarrón will be performed here.

El Cimarrón is a musical narrative theatre piece based on the autobiography of Cuban freedom fighter Esteban Montejo.

Chamber music in the garden of Villa Lily Pastré is also one of our special recommendations.

Discover Aix en Provence

Cézanne came from Aix. He found inspiration in the special light of Provence, a light that will still inspire you today.

In 1902, he built the Atelier des Lauves above the city.

A great way to start the day is at the daily market on Place Richelme, in the heart of the old town.

Afterwards, it's worth visiting the Fondation Vasarely, which offers an exciting contrast to the historic town centre.

In this striking building, the foundation showcases the world of Victor Vasarely, the father of Op Art, with large-format geometric works, brightly coloured surfaces and walk-in installations.

During the festival, the wooden doors of the Hôtel Maynier d'Oppède, a town palace dating from 1757 with a shady courtyard, are opened. Open-air concerts are held here. If you wish, we can reserve seats for you at this special, hidden concert venue.

Your travel option

This trip is designed as an 8-day trip, for example from 4 to 11 July 2026.

The concert date at the Grand Théâtre de Provence on 8 July 2026 is set, and we will plan everything else according to your wishes.

Your accommodation options

Boutique Hôtel Cézanne

The Boutique Hôtel Cézanne is the right choice if you are looking for the atmosphere of a private townhouse. The hotel has been part of the city's history for around 100 years and is centrally located, only about a five-minute walk from Cours Mirabeau, making it ideal if you want to explore Aix on foot and relax at the festival in the evening.

The deluxe rooms are 22 m² in size and equipped with a king-size bed. The hotel has a very nice terrace where you can start your day in the morning.

Le Relais de Saint Ser

You will be staying at the foot of Montagne Sainte Victoire in Puyloubier, with beautiful views and many hiking trails nearby.

The house is nestled among olive trees against a rocky backdrop, and it takes about 30 minutes to reach the centre of Aix-en-Provence.

In the Superior Double Room with Terrace, you can start your day with a view of the mountains. The room is compact and simply furnished.

Grand Hôtel Roi René

The hotel is located on Boulevard du Roi René, only about 300 metres from Cours Mirabeau. There is a terrace with an outdoor pool.

You can sample Provençal cuisine in the restaurant ‘La Table du Roi’, and there is also a fitness room available.
The Superior Room with Pool View is 23 m² in size and equipped with a queen-size bed.

The room includes a Nespresso machine, minibar, air conditioning and bathrobes.
The Théâtre de l'Archevêché is about a 1 km walk away, and the old town is practically around the corner.

Car rental recommendation

A hire car is particularly worthwhile if you choose Le Relais de Saint Ser at the foot of Sainte-Victoire, as it takes around 30 minutes to drive to the centre of Aix-en-Provence. If you are staying in the city, i.e. at the Boutique Hôtel Cézanne or

the Grand Hôtel Roi René, a hire car is not essential, but can be very convenient for day trips in Provence.

Pick-up at Marseille Provence Airport or Aix en Provence TGV station is particularly convenient, depending on how you arrive.

On request, we can book your hire car to coincide with your flight or train times.
