Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana” at Staatsoperette Dresden 27 March 2027
The musical highlight
Carl Orff’s famous scenic cantata Carmina Burana is one of those works that makes an immediate and powerful impression.
These secular songs continue to fascinate and divide opinion. The monumental opening chorus, “O Fortuna”, is both an overwhelming musical experience and a pop-cultural icon. Yet its archaic opening gives little indication of the sensual, worldly character of the medieval texts that follow. At times earthy, at times tender, they celebrate the pleasures of life, brought vividly to life in Carl Orff’s music.
On 27 March 2027, Carmina Burana will appear on the programme of Staatsoperette Dresden for the first time. Soloists, chorus and orchestra of the Staatsoperette will be joined by the children’s choir, the community choir and students from the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber Dresden.
The performance will be conducted by Konrad Schöbel.
