Edinburgh International Festival: Art and culture in the heart of Scotland

Every year in August, the Edinburgh International Festival transforms the Scottish capital into a vibrant hotspot for the arts.

From 7 to 30 August 2026, you can expect an extraordinary programme of classical concerts, impressive opera performances and modern dance performances. The events will take place at various venues, such as the Usher Hall, the Edinburgh Playhouse and the Festival Theatre.

The first highlights for August 2026 have already been confirmed: the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Kirill Petrenko, will perform the festival finale at Usher Hall on 29 August with works by Edward Elgar and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, followed by a closing concert with Augustin Hadelich on 30 August. Opera lovers can look forward to Verdi's ‘A Masked Ball’ at the Festival Theatre, while the Edinburgh Playhouse will bring together dance and electronic music with ‘Mere Mortals’. The full festival programme will be published in March 2026.
