Before the opera, it is worth taking a stroll through the old town, around Długi Targ, the Long Market, which is the central promenade. Mariacka is also very beautiful, a short cobbled street with small jewellery shops and workshops, often associated with amber in Gdańsk, which is typical of the Pomerania region.
If you are looking for a contrast to the old town, the European Solidarność Centre is interesting, a modern cultural and museum building dedicated to the history of the Solidarność movement, which originated in the Gdańsk shipyard. From there, it is only a short walk to the former shipyard areas, which are now used as cultural spaces, urban and very photogenic.
