Granada International Music and Dance Festival

Concerts, Ballet and Flamenco at the Alhambra

The Festival Internacional de Música y Danza de Granada is one of Spain's long-established music and dance festivals.

Every summer, the historic palaces and gardens of the Alhambra, along with other venues across Granada, host international orchestras, soloists, ballet companies and flamenco artists.

Although the dates and festival programme for 2027 have not yet been announced, you can already start looking forward to Granada.

We can begin exploring hotel options and planning sightseeing visits together. Once the concert programme is published, we will arrange your journey around the musical highlights.

The Musical Highlight

One of the festival's best-known venues is the Palacio de Carlos V, a Renaissance palace within the Alhambra. Its circular courtyard, surrounded by two levels of colonnades, provides an impressive setting for major orchestral concerts.

The gardens of the Generalife, the former summer residence of the Nasrid rulers, are also among the festival venues.

The open-air theatre here hosts mainly dance and ballet performances. The festival also offers chamber music, vocal performances and flamenco.

For your visit, we recommend combining two different festival evenings, perhaps an orchestral concert at the Palacio de Carlos V and a dance performance at the Generalife. We will discuss the specific performances with you once the programme has been announced.

Discover Granada

The Alhambra, with its Nasrid palaces, courtyards and gardens, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Spain's most important examples of Moorish architecture. Yet Granada has much more to offer than its famous palace complex.

Music also has a long history here.

Granada has been known for its tradition of making classical and flamenco guitars for centuries. A visit to the workshop of guitar maker Óscar Muñoz offers a fascinating insight into this craft. His instruments are carefully made by hand. During a visit, you can learn about the different types of wood used, how a guitar is constructed and the skills involved in making these instruments. There may also be an opportunity to speak with the guitar maker himself.

In the historic Albaicín neighbourhood, you will find Peña La Platería, one of the most established meeting places in the Spanish flamenco scene. Since 1949, musicians and flamenco enthusiasts have gathered here. Its flamenco evenings feature singing, guitar playing and dance.

Ask us which workshop visits and flamenco evenings could be combined with the festival concerts. We will be happy to share our recommendations.

Following in the Footsteps of Manuel de Falla and Federico García Lorca

Granada has close connections with two major artists of the 20th century.

The composer Manuel de Falla lived in Granada from 1922 to 1939. His former home, the Carmen de Manuel de Falla, offers a reminder of his years in the city. His best-known works include the ballet ‘El amor brujo’ and the orchestral composition ‘Noches en los jardines de España’.

The poet and playwright Federico García Lorca, who was born in the province of Granada, had a deep interest in Andalusian folk music and flamenco. Together with Manuel de Falla, he worked to preserve traditional Cante Jondo, one of the oldest and most expressive styles of flamenco singing.

Visits to selected places associated with the lives of these two artists offer an interesting addition to the festival concerts.
