6 June 2026, a Gothic cathedral and 3,383 hand-blown glass panes in 65 shades.
What world-renowned artist Ólafur Elíasson has created in the east windows of St. Nikolai Cathedral is unique in Europe:
his work ‘Window for Moving Light’ captures the light coming in from the east and transforms it into an ever-changing play of colours that fills the entire church interior.
It is in this very space that you will experience Johann Sebastian Bach's Mass in B minor, BWV 232, on 6 June 2026 – a work that speaks for itself. The combination of this work and this location is unique.
With Johanna Ihrig (soprano), Britta Schwarz (alto), Christian Rathgeber (tenor) and Anton Haupt (bass), the Greifswald Cathedral Choir and the Greifswald Bach Week Orchestra conducted by Frank Dittmer, you can look forward to a very special performance.
The evening is part of the 80th Greifswald Bach Week, which celebrates its anniversary from 1 to 7 June 2026 under the motto
‘BACH infinitum’.

While Greifswald is all about Bach, just 30 minutes away Stralsund is in a festive summer mood. From 4 to 7 June 2026, Stralsund will host its harbour days: four days of maritime activities and live music right on the waterfront and the Sund promenade, free of charge and under the open sky. A beautiful, lively contrast to the concert experience in Greifswald.
