Chinese New Year Concert with the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra at the Elbphilharmonie

The Musical Highlight

On 14 February 2027, the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, conducted by Yan Huichang, welcomes the Chinese New Year – the Year of the Fire Goat – in the Grand Hall of Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie.

The Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra is internationally renowned for its performances of traditional Chinese music.

The programme features works by Chew Hee Chiat, Peng Xiuwen, Zhao Jiping and Ng Cheuk-yin, including ‘Qin – The Terracotta Warriors’ and ‘Silk Road Fantasy Suite’.

Alongside the orchestra’s wide range of traditional Chinese instruments, soloist Ma Wai Him takes centre stage on the guanzi.

Explore the Speicherstadt, Hamburg’s historic warehouse district, with its old brick warehouses, charming bridges and narrow waterways known as Fleete. Just a short walk away, HafenCity offers waterfront restaurants and cafés.

A trip on one of Hamburg’s harbour ferries is also well worth taking. From the water, you can enjoy a different perspective of the city,

the Landungsbrücken piers and the Elbphilharmonie.

Before the concert, we recommend visiting the Plaza, the Elbphilharmonie’s public viewing platform, 37 metres above ground level.

From here, you can enjoy sweeping views of the harbour, the Speicherstadt and the city stretching far beyond the River Elbe.
