The musical highlight: Chamber concerts at the Giardini La Mortella

A garden becomes a concert hall. Subtropical plants, water features, terraces of volcanic rock and chamber music.

The Giardini La Mortella were created from the 1950s onwards. Lady Susana Walton developed the garden over several decades, initially working with the English landscape architect Russell Page.

Her husband, the composer Sir William Walton, found a peaceful place here in which to work.

What began as a private retreat gradually grew into an extraordinary garden with beautiful views across the Bay of Forio. Today, La Mortella is both a concert venue and a memorial to its remarkable history.

In the small concert hall, tucked away among subtropical plants and volcanic rock, musicians perform who have been selected from some of Italy’s most prestigious music institutions, including the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome.

The chamber concerts during the autumn season begin at 5.00 pm in the Sala Recite. The concert hall is located in the lower part of the Giardini La Mortella.

The concerts last approximately 60 minutes. Your concert ticket also includes admission to the gardens.

Your concert on 25 October 2026

On Sunday, 25 October, the Stauffer Cello Quartet will perform in the Sala Recite. The programme includes works by Giovanni Sollima, Frédéric Chopin, Richard Wagner, Alexandre Tansman and Pyotr Tchaikovsky.

The quartet is part of the Accademia Stauffer in Cremona.

Before the performance, there will be plenty of time to explore the gardens.

Make the white Church of Santa Maria del Soccorso by the sea your first point of orientation.

Ischia is reached via Naples Airport. From the port of Naples, a ferry or hydrofoil takes you to Ischia Porto in around one and a half hours.
