Ischia - Italy

Concerts at the Giardini La Mortella
on the island of Ischia from April to October 2026

The musical highlight: chamber concerts in the Giardini La Mortella

A garden becomes a concert hall. Subtropical plants, water features, lava-stone terraces and chamber music.

The Giardini La Mortella in Forio are among the most beautiful botanical gardens in Europe.

They were laid out in 1956 by the Argentine-British pianist Lady Susana Walton together with her husband, the English composer

Sir William Walton, who made Ischia his home.

What began as a private retreat grew over the decades into an extraordinary garden, with a magnificent view across Forio Bay.

Today, the ‘La Mortella’ garden is both a concert venue and a monument.

In the small concert hall, tucked away amongst subtropical plants and lava rock, musicians perform,

selected from Italy’s most prestigious music academies, including the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome.

The 2026 concert season runs from 2 April to 1 November. The chamber concerts take place every Saturday and Sunday in the museum’s concert hall.

From June, a second musical highlight will be added: the orchestral concerts at the Teatro Greco, an open-air theatre at the highest point of the botanical garden with a spectacular view of Forio Bay, every Thursday at 9 pm.

Discover Ischia

Make the white church of Santa Maria del Soccorso by the sea your first point of reference. The Castello Aragonese, perched on a rocky cliff, is also well worth a visit. And if you’d like to see the island from a bird’s-eye view,
hike up Monte Epomeo, the extinct volcano at the heart of Ischia, which offers views across the entire Gulf of Naples.

Your travel option

Choose your favourite place on Ischia:

Tenuta del Poggio Antico ****

This 4-star boutique hotel enjoys a peaceful location on the slopes of Monte Epomeo, above Forio, the beautiful harbour town on the island’s west coast. The outdoor pool is set in a beautiful garden where the hotel also grows its own vegetables and fruit. A free shuttle service takes you to Forio and back again.

Deluxe double room, balcony, sea view, 27 m², breakfast included

Your deluxe double room is spacious and modern. The balcony or large terrace has a sea view.

The Giardini La Mortella are about 3.5 km away.

Villa Ravino Secret Retreat ****

The villa combines a lodge house with an extraordinary botanical garden. The property is home to a large cactus collection and is also a charming, very personal aparthotel with a pool, thermal spring water, its own restaurant and a very nice bar lounge surrounded by greenery.

Studio with terrace and garden view, 24 m², including breakfast

The studio at Villa Ravino is a small hideaway – more like a well-kept apartment surrounded by greenery than a classic hotel room.

It has a sleeping area and an equipped kitchenette if you want to be independent between meals. The best thing about it is the terrace with access to the garden. The studio can be booked with or without breakfast.

Villa Ravino Secret Retreat is about 2.5 km from Giardini La Mortella.
