On 9 January 2027, experience Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ at Theatre Royal Drury Lane with an exceptional cast.

Glenn Close takes on the role of King Herod for this performance. The multi-award-winning American actress is appearing in the role only from 4 to 9 January 2027, making the performance on 9 January her final appearance as King Herod in this London production.

Glenn Close has been nominated for an Academy Award seven times and also has a close connection with Andrew Lloyd Webber on stage: she won a Tony Award for her portrayal of Norma Desmond in ‘Sunset Boulevard’.

Sam Ryder appears as Jesus. The British singer gained international recognition through the Eurovision Song Contest and makes his West End debut in ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’. Tyrone Huntley plays Judas, a role for which he received considerable acclaim and

an Olivier Award nomination in the earlier production at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre.

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s rock opera, with lyrics by Tim Rice, tells the story of the final days in the life of Jesus from the perspective of Judas. Songs including ‘Superstar’, ‘I Don’t Know How to Love Him’ and ‘Gethsemane’ have become some of the musical’s best-known numbers since its premiere.

Theatre Royal Drury Lane is one of London’s most historic theatres. The present building dates from the early 19th century and has undergone extensive restoration.

Drinks have been served here since around 1756, and it is noticeably less touristy than many of the better-known addresses around Westminster.

Our tip for a free afternoon: combine a pint or something hearty at the Two Chairmen with a walk through St James’s Park.
