Giuseppe Verdi’s ‘Luisa Miller’ with Piotr Beczała

at the Teatro di San Carlo on 4 December 2026

The musical highlight

Giuseppe Verdi composed the opera for the Teatro di San Carlo, based on Friedrich Schiller’s play ‘Kabale und Liebe’.

It received its world premiere in Naples on 8 December 1849. Almost 177 years later, the San Carlo opens its 2026/27 opera season with ‘Luisa Miller’ in a new production.

Daniel Oren conducts and Davide Livermore directs. On 4 December, Piotr Beczała sings Rodolfo. This production also marks the internationally acclaimed tenor’s debut at the Teatro di San Carlo.

Music Travel Hideaways Special

The following day, you move from the grand opera stage to a very different side of Naples’ musical heritage.

In Vomero, a neighbourhood set above the historic centre, you will visit the MU Casa Museo Murolo. The Murolo family lived in this apartment from 1930 until Roberto Murolo’s death in 2003.

Ernesto Murolo was one of the important poets of the classic Neapolitan song tradition. His son Roberto became one of its best-known interpreters. For decades, the house was a meeting place for artists and figures from Naples’ cultural life.

Today, original manuscripts, letters and historic records are preserved here. The collection also includes instruments and personal belongings of the Murolo family.

An English-language guided tour of the Casa Museo Murolo is already included in your trip.

Discover Naples

Piazza del Plebiscito, the Palazzo Reale and the Teatro di San Carlo are all close to one another. From here, you can continue into the Chiaia district with its shops and cafés. Stop at Gran Caffè Gambrinus and try the excellent Neapolitan sfogliatelle, crisp layered pastries filled with ricotta.

For your visit to the Casa Museo Murolo, you will travel up to the Vomero district. The museum visit can easily be combined with a walk to Castel Sant’Elmo or the former Carthusian monastery, the Certosa di San Martino.

At the beginning of December, Naples shows another side of itself. The Christmas season is already well under way in the historic centre, and around Via San Gregorio Armeno the workshops and shops of Naples’ famous nativity-scene makers take centre stage.

Your travel option

Royal Continental Naples ****

The hotel is located opposite Castel dell’Ovo, overlooking the Bay of Naples. The Classic rooms are approximately 18 square metres and have a modern interior. Just a few minutes’ walk away is Borgo Marinari on the Isolotto di Megaride. Around its small harbour, you can sit right by the water in a setting that is noticeably quieter than the seafront promenade. We particularly recommend it for an aperitivo.
