Sting musical ‘The Last Ship’ at the Metropolitan Opera

(Season: 9 to 14 June 2026)

The musical highlight

In June 2026, ‘The Last Ship’ will be performed at the Metropolitan Opera at Lincoln Centre. The musical is based on Sting's memories of his childhood in the shipbuilding community of Wallsend in north-east England. It tells the story of a town whose future depends on a shipyard and of people fighting for their jobs, their pride and their neighbourhood.

Sting himself will return to the stage for a short time as Jackie White. He will be joined by Shaggy in the role of the Ferryman.

You can choose your preferred performance during the run from 9 to 14 June 2026.

Discover New York: music, hidden neighbourhoods and our special addresses

You have a week in New York, giving you time to discover the city beyond the classic postcard motifs.

Surrounding the Metropolitan Opera at Lincoln Centre is the Upper West Side with its elegant residential buildings, small bookshops and typical neighbourhood restaurants. From here, you can stroll through Damrosch Park to Central Park or past beautiful Columbus Avenue with its cafés and delis.

If you want to enjoy more music after the musical, combine your trip with New York's music venues: small clubs like the Smoke Jazz & Supper Club on the corner of Broadway and 106th Street show how close you can get to artists in this city.

Plan a visit to the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, located directly at Lincoln Centre. The exhibition features posters, photos, costume and stage designs from theatre and musical history, as well as original recordings to listen to.

If you would like to plan additional musical evenings, the following are recommended during your travel period:

  • An Evening with Isabel Leonard and Friends, Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall on 9 June 2026. The multiple Grammy Award-winning mezzo-soprano will host an evening with guests in the more intimate Zankel Hall.
  • The MET Orchestra in Carnegie Hall on 11 June 2026 in the Stern Auditorium. The Metropolitan Opera Orchestra will perform Bruckner's monumental Symphony No. 8 under the baton of Yannick Nézet-Séguin.

We can include tickets for these additional evenings in your package upon request.

Your travel options

The Marlton Hotel - Greenwich Village

A boutique hotel in a historic brick building just off 8th Street, in the heart of Greenwich Village. The lobby, bar and breakfast room flow into one another on the ground floor, creating a feeling more like an elegant living room than a classic city hotel.

You will stay in a room with a queen-size bed, compact but very well designed, with warm colours, wooden floors and a stylish bathroom. A continental breakfast awaits you in the morning.

From The Marlton, it is just a few minutes' walk to the West 4th Street subway station. From there, you can reach Lincoln Centre and the Met in about 20 minutes by subway.

The Wallace - Upper West Side

An elegant boutique hotel on the Upper West Side, between Broadway and West End Avenue. The Wallace is located in a quiet residential area with many delis on the corner and lovely restaurants, just a few minutes' walk from Central Park. It takes about 15 minutes to walk to the Metropolitan Opera, or just a few minutes on the 1 subway line from 79th Street.

The superior rooms with a queen-size bed are spacious and feel more like a small city apartment.

Breakfast is not included in the price at The Wallace. This suits guests who like to do as New Yorkers do and try out one of the many cafés in the neighbourhood in the morning – from the classic bagel bakery to the small coffee shop on the corner.

Washington Square Hotel – Greenwich Village

The Washington Square Hotel is located directly on Washington Square Park, in the heart of Greenwich Village. A hotel with history and lots of atmosphere, ideal if you want to feel at home in a classic New York neighbourhood, like in ‘your’ neighbourhood.

You will stay in a superior room with a queen-size bed, cosy and functional, furnished with Art Deco details. A continental breakfast is also included here.

The West 4 St subway station is only a few minutes' walk away. From there, you can easily travel uptown to Lincoln Centre; the journey to the Met takes about 20 minutes, and a taxi takes a similar amount of time, depending on the time of day.
