Riga - Latvia
New Year with Johann Sebastian Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, the Latvian Radio Choir and Sinfonietta Rīga
Riga, with its historic Old Town and lively music scene, is one of the most interesting cultural cities in the Baltic region.
Over New Year, you have four nights to discover the Latvian capital at a relaxed pace and spend New Year’s Eve in the heart of the Old Town.
At the centre of the journey is Johann Sebastian Bach’s Christmas Oratorio with the Latvian Radio Choir and Sinfonietta Rīga.
Depending on your departure time, a short organ concert at Riga Cathedral can also be included on the final day of your stay.
The musical highlight
On 30 December 2026, you will experience Johann Sebastian Bach’s Christmas Oratorio at the Torņakalns Lutheran Church in Riga.
Conducted by Kaspars Putniņš, the concert features the Latvian Radio Choir, the chamber orchestra Sinfonietta Rīga and soloists.
Parts I, IV and III of the Christmas Oratorio will be performed.
The concert is part of the European Christmas festival.
For New Year’s Eve, we can arrange a suitable dinner according to your preferences.
On 2 January 2027, depending on your departure time, there is also the option of ending your journey with a short organ concert
at 12.00 noon in Riga Cathedral.
The cathedral’s great organ is one of Europe’s best-known historic organs. The approximately 20-minute Concerto Piccolo offers a lovely musical conclusion to the journey before you leave for the airport.
Discover Riga
Riga’s historic Old Town is easy to explore on foot. Around the cathedral, the House of the Blackheads and the medieval streets, you will find cafés, restaurants and small shops.
Riga is one of the European cities with a particularly large number of preserved Art Nouveau buildings.
Many of the most striking examples can be found around Alberta iela and Elizabetes iela.
We can also arrange additional programmes for your stay. These could include a private tour of the Old Town and the Art Nouveau district or a tasting of traditional Riga Black Balsam, a spiced Latvian herbal liqueur whose history dates back to the 18th century.
Excursions outside Riga can also be added to your stay. The Baroque Rundāle Palace lies around 70 kilometres south of the capital. Another option is Jūrmala on the Baltic Sea, known for its historic wooden villas and long sandy beach.
