Santa Fe Opera 2027

Opera under the open skies of New Mexico

The Santa Fe Opera is one of the world’s most renowned opera companies.

The Crosby Theatre is located just outside Santa Fe on an expansive site surrounded by the New Mexico landscape. This open-air opera house seats more than 2,000 people. To the west, views stretch towards the Jemez Mountains, while the Sangre de Cristo Mountains rise to the east.

In 2027, the Santa Fe Opera celebrates its 70th season. Five productions will be staged between 2 July and 28 August.

The programme

Giacomo Puccini, ‘Turandot’

The season opens with Puccini’s ‘Turandot’, with Angela Meade in the title role. The production is directed by Paul Curran, with costumes designed by Italian fashion designer Roberto Capucci.

Gioachino Rossini, ‘Il barbiere di Siviglia’

Rossini’s ‘Il barbiere di Siviglia’ returns to the Santa Fe Opera stage in Stephen Barlow’s production.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, ‘Così fan tutte’

A new production of Mozart’s ‘Così fan tutte’ will be presented in 2027. Director Amy Lane and designer Emma Ryott set the story in a casino in Normandy in 1929.

Leoš Janáček, ‘Kátya Kabanová’

Ailyn Pérez takes the title role in a new production by David Pountney. The opera will be conducted by Harry Bicket, Music Director of the Santa Fe Opera.

Brett Dean, ‘Of One Blood’

‘Of One Blood’, a new work by Brett Dean with a libretto by Heather Betts, receives its American premiere. The story centres on Mary, Queen of Scots and Elizabeth I. The opera was created as an international co-production led by the Bavarian State Opera.

Five operas in five nights

For opera lovers, August 2027 offers an exceptional opportunity.

From 17 to 21 August 2027, all five productions of the season will be performed on five consecutive evenings.

Of course, you do not have to go to the opera every evening. Depending on your interests, you can choose two or three performances and combine them with a few days in Santa Fe.

The Santa Fe Opera has a tradition rarely encountered at European opera houses.

Many visitors arrive well before the performance and enjoy their own tailgate picnic outside the theatre. Small tables and chairs are set up beside the car, accompanied by food brought along for the evening.

If you prefer something a little more traditional, you can begin the evening with a Preview Dinner on the opera grounds. During dessert, there is an introduction to the opera being performed that evening.

Discover Santa Fe

Take a stroll along Canyon Road. Within just 800 metres, you will find more than 100 galleries, many housed in former adobe homes. They showcase contemporary art as well as works inspired by the American Southwest.

Through New Mexico with Sky Railway

If you wish, we can add a journey with Sky Railway to your trip.

The restored historic trains depart from Santa Fe and travel along the old railway line through the Galisteo Basin, accompanied by live music.

Have you ever wanted to visit the home of American painter Georgia O’Keeffe?

We organise your journey to Abiquiú, around 85 kilometres north of Santa Fe.

There you can visit Georgia O’Keeffe’s preserved home and studio, where she lived from 1949 to 1984. You will see her living room, the garden and, finally, the studio with its large window overlooking the New Mexico landscape.

After the guided tour, there is time to spend in Abiquiú before your driver takes you back to Santa Fe.
