Schwerin - Germany

Castle concert in the courtyard of Schwerin Castle
on 18 July 2026

The musical highlight

On 18 July 2026, the courtyard of Schwerin Castle will be transformed into an open-air stage – the Mecklenburg State Orchestra Schwerin invites you to an open-air summer concert. The programme is called ‘Sounding World Heritage’, and the name fits perfectly:

the neo-Renaissance backdrop of the castle has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2024.
The programme includes works by Wilhelm Heinrich Berwald (Danse fantastique and Intermezzo romantique),

Georg Alois Schmitt's overture to Calderon's ‘The Steadfast Prince’, Robert Alfred Kirchner's ‘Intrata ed Allegro’

and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's Symphony No. 4, the ‘Italian’.

Discover Schwerin

Stroll through Schwerin's old town with its narrow streets. The market square with the cathedral is a good starting point. From there,

you can reach the Pfaffenteich, the inner-city lake, in just a few minutes, which is a wonderful place to stroll. Art lovers should visit the Staatliches Museum Schwerin. Its collection of 17th-century Dutch and Flemish paintings is one of the most important in Germany.
