Venice Carnival: ‘Madama Butterfly’ at the Teatro La Fenice and the ‘Ballo Tiepolo’ in February 2027

The musical highlight

‘Ballo Tiepolo’

Saturday, 6 February 2027, 8.00 pm
Salone del Ridotto, Venice

The Ballo Tiepolo is one of the great masked balls of the Venetian Carnival.

The celebrations take place in the historic Salone del Ridotto. These rooms were once among the most important meeting places of the Venetian Carnival.

The evening begins with an aperitif. This is followed by a four-course meal.

A classical ensemble will perform live, featuring opera arias and dances from the 18th and 19th centuries.

‘Madama Butterfly’ at the Teatro La Fenice

Sunday, 7 February 2027, 5.00 pm
Teatro La Fenice

On Sunday, you will attend a performance of Giacomo Puccini’s opera ‘Madama Butterfly’ at the Teatro La Fenice.

Daniele Callegari conducts the orchestra and choir of the Teatro La Fenice. Àlex Rigola directs.

The set and costumes are by the Japanese artist Mariko Mori.

Your historical costume

A full historical costume is compulsory for the Ballo Tiepolo.

The package includes the hire of a costume made in Venice by the Tiepolo workshop.

Ladies’ costumes include the dress and the basic accessories specific to the design.

Men’s costumes include, amongst other things, a shirt, jabot, stockings and shoe bows.

Hats, capes, wigs and additional masks can be selected for an extra charge, depending on the design.

An appointment must be made in advance at the atelier for selection and fitting.

The costume must be returned by 11:00 the following morning.

Carnival in Venice

During Carnival, historical costumes and intricately crafted masks are a familiar sight around the city.

You’ll frequently come across visitors in costume, particularly around St Mark’s Square, along the canals and in front of the palazzi. Early in the morning and in the late afternoon, the atmosphere is usually quieter than during the busiest times of the day.
