Concerts at the Giardini La Mortella

from April to October 2026

The Giardini La Mortella are situated above Forio on the west coast of Ischia and are among the most beautiful botanical gardens in Italy.

The garden was laid out by the Argentine-British pianist Lady Susana Walton and her husband, the English composer Sir William Walton. Amidst subtropical plants, water features and terraces made of lava rock, chamber concerts and summer open-air concerts take place every year.

The 2026 concert season begins in April and continues in September and October following the summer break.

The chamber concerts

The chamber concerts take place on Saturdays and Sundays at 5.00 pm in the Recital Hall, a small concert hall situated in the heart of the garden.

The performers are young musicians selected from renowned Italian conservatoires and academies.

The programme focuses on works for piano, violin, cello and other chamber music ensembles.

The summer concerts at the Teatro Greco

From late June to late July, the Teatro Greco becomes a concert venue. The open-air theatre is situated in the upper part of the Giardini La Mortella and offers views over Forio and the sea.

On 23 July, the Orchestra Sinfonica del Liceo Tenca from Milan will perform works by Gustav Holst, Miklós Rózsa, John Williams,

Maurice Jarre and William Walton.

On 30 July, the Hertfordshire Youth Wind Sinfonia will be performing with their brass ensembles. The programme includes works by William Walton, Thomas Tallis and Ralph Vaughan Williams.
