Chamber music and open-air concerts on Ischia

The Giardini La Mortella are situated above Forio on the west coast of Ischia and are among the most beautiful botanical gardens in Italy.

The garden was created from the 1950s onwards around the home of Lady Susana Walton and her husband, the English composer

Sir William Walton. The landscape architect Russell Page initially designed the lower part of the garden. Susana Walton then continued to develop La Mortella over several decades.

Set amongst subtropical plants, water features and terraces made of lava rock, chamber concerts and summer open-air concerts take place here every year.

The musical season comprises chamber concerts in spring and autumn, as well as a summer open-air series at the Teatro Greco.

The exact programmes and dates are published anew each year.

The chamber concerts

The chamber concerts take place on Saturdays and Sundays at 5.00 pm in the Recital Hall, a small concert hall situated in the heart of the garden. The performers are young musicians selected from renowned Italian conservatoires and academies.

The focus is on works for piano, violin, cello and other chamber music ensembles.

The Summer Concerts at the Teatro Greco

From late June to late July, the Teatro Greco becomes a concert venue. The open-air theatre is situated in the upper part of the Giardini La Mortella and offers views over Forio and the sea.
